Arms, ammunition, drugs seized in Operation Anaconda in Novosibirsk region

NOVOSIBIRSK. Oct 24 (Interfax) - More than 30 criminal cases were opened upon the end of Operation Anaconda in 12 districts of the Novosibirsk region, a source at the regional department of the Federal Security service said.

The department held the operation together with border guards, police, customs officers, migration authorities and traffic inspectors.

"The law enforcers concentrated on the state border with the Republic of Kazakhstan and main motorways that go to neighboring regions," he said.

The officers seized more than 20 pieces of smooth-barrel and gas weapons, hundreds of ammunition rounds and about 2 kilograms of marijuana, heroin and methylephedrine.

Dozens of violations of the border regime and more than 500 violations of the migration laws were prevented. Nine foreign citizens were deported for using forged Russian ids and some would face criminal charges.

In all, 33 criminal cases were opened, mostly for drug trafficking and car hijacks.

Eleven citizens wanted by the local police force were taken into custody.
