Atambayev wins Kyrgyz presidential election - head of Central Elections Commission (Part 2)

BISHKEK. Oct 31 (Interfax) - Almazbek Atambayev, the 55-year-old incumbent prime minister of Kyrgyzstan, won the Sunday presidential election, according to early reports of the Central Elections Commission (CEC).

"One can already definitely say that there will be no runoff," head of CEC Tuigunaaly Abdraimov said at a Monday press conference.

"Over 60% of voters cast their ballots for Atambayev," he said.

Victory in the election required a simple majority.

The CEC head said returns from over 90% polling stations have been counted and according to them "incumbent Prime Minister Almazbek Atambayev holds the lead with over 60% of voters voting for him."

His main rivals, Adakhan Madumarov and Kamchibek Tashiyev, collected 14% each.

"I gave instructions to look into the crudest irregularities that were reported yesterday and if they prove true, to cancel the voting results in those districts," the CEC head said.

According to the election teams of presidential candidates, there were attempts of ballot-stuffing at three polling stations. Representatives of CEC, the police and prosecutor's office are probing the incidents.
