MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax-AVN) - Eight new Sukhoi Su-27SM multi-role fighters will be supplied to the Russian Air Force before the end of November, a source in the defense sector told Interfax-AVN.
"The Su-27SM fighters have been manufactured at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur plant and will be supplied to the Russian Air Force within the next two or three weeks," he said.
The delivery will be made under a contract signed at the MAKS aerospace show in 2009, which said that 12 Su-27SM jets would be delivered to the Russian Air Force.
"Four jets were supplied earlier," the source said.
The eight jets are brand new. "Besides, the Komsomolsk-on-Amur plant has modernized a large number of Su-27S jets into Su-27SM," he said.
The closest analog of Su-27SM jets in NATO is F-15C Eagle and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet.
