MINSK. Dec 5 (Interfax) - Dmitry Konovalov, one of the two men sentenced to death for a deadly bombing in the subway of Minsk, Belarus' capital, several months ago, sought to destabilize the situation in Belarus as a form of "self-fulfillment," Andrei Shved, first deputy chairman of the country's Investigative Committee, said on Friday.
"Destabilization was his goal. His motives were obvious. The man set himself against society. This was an attempt at self-fulfillment," Shved told a news conference in Minsk.
Specialists traced the shaping of Konovalov's personality. "There have been certain characteristics there, ever since his infancy," Shved said. "His personality became warped."
Shved confirmed that investigators had checked the contacts of Konovalov and the other convict, Vladislav Kovalyov.
"All the contacts that were recorded on their mobile telephones from the moment they were connected were checked within one month at the longest: 1,600 people in Konovalov's and about 1,000 people in Kovalyov's case. Altogether more than 2,000 contacts were investigated," Shved said.
