University grads aged under 27 will be conscripted - Makarov

MOSCOW. Dec 7 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian General Staff plans to conscript more university graduates due to the shortage of conscripts caused by the difficult demographic situation in Russia, Russian General Staff Chief Gen. Nikolai Makarov said on Wednesday.

"There are many deferrals [of military service] for education. Most of them expire when young men get an education. It happens at the age of 24-25. Because we conscript men younger than 27, we intend to conscript this category," Makarov said during a meeting with military attaches.
