MAKHACHKALA. Jan 12 (Interfax) - Bomb disposal experts from the Dagestan headquarters of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Dagestan Interior Ministry's special police force unit have completed the demining of a section of the Kavkaz federal motorway in Dagestan's Kizilyurt district, the FSB's Dagestan headquarters told Interfax.
In all, the bomb disposal experts have defused six powerful explosive devices forming one chain, a source said.
"Each device was a plastic 65-liter container filled with an explosive substance. The estimated total capacity is equivalent to approximately 400 kilograms of TNT," the spokesperson said.
A major terrorist plot against the military was foiled in the Kizilyurt district, a Dagestan law enforcement source told Interfax.
"According to the information available, the terrorist attack was plotted against one of the military motorcades which pass through this section of the motorway," he said.
The six explosive devices buried on the roadside were discovered on Tuesday evening. The first of them was rendered safe on the same day, the second one blew up spontaneously, killing one police bomb disposal expert and injuring senior warrant officer Khalilov and eight more law enforcement officers.
