New U.S. Ambassador to Russia McFaul arrives in Moscow

MOSCOW. Jan 16 (Interfax) - New U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, who is considered one of the key authors of the so-called 'reset' policy in relation to Russia, arrived in Moscow on Saturday.

McFaul, who is to replace John Beyrle, will be the fourth U.S. ambassador to Russia in the 21st century and only the second U.S. ambassador to Russia in the past 30 years who is not a career diplomat.

McFaul, 48, has an impressive career spanning experience as an academic and political scientist to President Barack Obama's special assistant and senior director of Russian and Eurasian Affairs and ultimately ambassador to Russia.

Before arriving to Moscow, McFaul said on his video blog that his main goal in the new office would be to help Russians better understand America and expand contacts between the peoples of the U.S. and Russia.
