MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax) - Russia will not support a new UN Security Council draft resolution proposed by Western countries to impose sanctions on Syria.
"We know that the French have drafted a Security Council resolution on Syria in New York. There are still some red lines for us that we cannot cross in discussing any draft resolution on Syria. This means that wordings on imposing sanctions and calling on all countries to impose unilateral restrictions in relation to this country are unacceptable to us," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told Interfax on Thursday.
"Moreover, we cannot support a proposal or a draft resolution that would retroactively authorize sanctions imposed on Syria unilaterally, without any consultations with us or other Security Council members," he said.
