MOSCOW. Jan 26 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian Aerospace Defense Forces will be fully equipped with modern hardware by 2020, Forces spokesman Col. Alexei Zolotukhin told Interfax-AVN.
"About 100% of air defense units of the Air Defense and Missile Defense Command of the Russian Aerospace Forces will be armed with S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile-and-gun systems and Vityaz anti-aircraft systems by 2020," he said.
Six Pantsir-S systems tested in Ashuluk and Kapustin Yar have been supplied to the Forces, Zolotukhin said.
All the S-300MP systems have been modernized by now, he added.
"The second phase of modernization will transform these systems into S-300PM2, which will increase their ability to hit ballistic targets, replace outdated work stations and computers, supplement the systems with autonomous target detection systems and modernize communication and topographic units," he said.
Modernization of the systems to S-300PM increases their efficiency in the elimination of aerodynamic and ballistic targets by 15%-20% on average.
