MOSCOW. Feb 22 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry has no information suggesting that the Russian border with Abkhazia has been closed, or security has been tightened along its perimeter.
"I have no such information," Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said at a press briefing in Moscow.
The Abkhaz border is guarded by Russian forces, he said.
"Under an intergovernmental agreement, Russia is responsible for Abkhazia's and South Ossetia's security," Lukashevich said.
Reports said earlier that Abkhazia's border with Georgia and Russia was closed after Wednesday's attempted assassination of Abkhaz President Alexander Ankvab.
