Young people urged to join insurgent ranks in Ingushetia

MAGAS. Feb 24 (Interfax) - There have been instances of a militant recruiting campaign in Ingushetia, law enforcement representatives said at a meeting in Magas, which was attended by Ingushetia leader Yunus-Bek Yevkurov.

"At a Friday meeting, which focused on the implementation of measures aimed at providing public safety, Ingush security and police representatives said that presently there are people in the republic who urge young people to join the ranks of the insurgency," the Ingush leader's press office told Interfax.

At the meeting the head of the republic ordered police officers to conduct preventive measures and to step up local police efforts, the source said.

Relatives of militants, wanted persons and suspects must be placed under special control by senior family members, Yevkurov said.

The respect for, and authority of senior family members play an important role in such preventive measures, he said.

"From our early days we have been brought up on the authority of our parents and unconditional obedience," Yevkurov was quoted as saying by his press office.

The Ingush leader also asked the local elders to influence erring relatives and to prevent situations that will be hard to rectify tomorrow.
