BAKU. Feb 29 (Interfax) - Azeri President Ilham Aliyev has described the French Constitutional Council's decision to repeal legislation criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire as a triumph of freedom of speech and expression, the presidential secretariat reported on Wednesday.
"The chief of state welcomes the fair decision and expresses gratitude to all French people who assumed this resolute position," says a statement published on the Azeri president's official website.
The French Constitutional Council invalidated legislation criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide on February 28.
