MOSCOW. April 18 (Interfax) - It is important for Syria to fulfill the obligations under the UN-Arab League envoy, Kofi Annan's plan, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"The Russian side noted the importance of maintaining ceasefire, and of the strict and consistent implementation by the Syrian government and all other parties, of obligations deriving from the Annan plan, as well as the earliest possible activation of the monitoring mechanism by the UN," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement after talks on Tuesday between the Kremlin's Middle East envoy, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad.
The parties discussed the situation in Syria after the ceasefire was enforced due to Annan's efforts on April 12.
"The ambassador emphasized the Syrian authorities' determination to abide by the obligations assumed in this connection. He cited increasingly frequent attempts by armed groups to derail the fragile truce and expressed the hope that the deployment of UN observers will put an end to these provocations," the statement says.
The Russian side underscored "the urgent need to activate efforts to launch the inclusive inter-Syrian dialogue that would make the normalization process irreversible."
Bogdanov gave his opinion of the contacts in Moscow with a delegation of the Syrian opposition National Coordinating Committee for Democratic Change, the statement said.
