MOSCOW. April 19 (Interfax) - Russia is hoping that the international commission created by the UN Human Rights Council to investigate the situation in Syria will be objective.
"Russia is hoping that the commission will adopt an unbiased and objective approach to the evaluation of the human rights situation in Syria and the issuance of its recommendations, which should be aimed at achieving comprehensive national dialogue and peaceful settlement of the crisis in this country without any outside interference," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a report posted on its website on Wednesday following a meeting between Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov and Paulo Pineiro, the head of the UN commission.
The meeting participants addressed a broad range of issues relating to the work of the commission and the preparation of its report on the human rights situation in Syria, which will be considered at the 21st session of the UN Human Rights Council.
In the meantime, Gatilov said on Twitter earlier on Wednesday that the chairperson of the UN commission investigating the human rights situation in Syria has found that the Syrian opposition has violated human rights.
"The head of the UN commission investigating the human rights situation in Syria has acknowledged that the opposition is also responsible for serious violations," Gatilov has written on Twitter.
