ASTANA. April 27 (Interfax-AVN) - The Security Council secretaries of Collective Security Treaty Organization member states discussed new suggestions on ways to respond to security threats at a meeting in Astana on Friday, CSTO Secretary-General Nikolai Bordyuzha told journalists.
"The session addressed global and regional challenges facing CSTO member states and measures to neutralize them. Almost all of the problems our states have encountered today were discussed in light of factors influencing the development of the day-to-day strategic situation in all regions of the Collective Security Treaty," he said.
The Security Council secretaries formulated proposals to improve military cooperation and step up the fight against drug trafficking as part of measures to counter new challenges facing CSTO member states, Bordyuzha said.
"These new measures are aimed at combating illegal immigration, enhancing information security and tackling a large number of other issues," he said.
"We regard today's session as a dress rehearsal ahead of a Collective Security Council session - a meeting of the presidents," Bordyuzha said.
