Third policeman suspected of subjecting detained programmer to violence detained in Kazan

KAZAN. April 28 (Interfax) - The Kazan Privolzhsky District Court issued an arrest warrant on Friday evening for Denis Vasilyev, former operative with the criminal search department of the Kazan Dalny police station, who is suspected of torturing detainee Oskar Krylov.

"Thus, the court has granted the investigators' request for the suspect to be arrested. He has been arrested until June 26," court secretary Lilya Khaibullina told Interfax on Saturday.

Vasilyev, 22, is the third person to be arrested in connection with the Krylov torture case.

According to earlier reports, his two former colleagues (Ainur Rakhmatullin, 30, the head of the Dalny criminal search department, and Amir Sharafullin, 28) have already been charged. They were arrested for two months (until May 18) on March 20.

According to the investigators, Krylov, 22, was invited to the Dalny police station to fix a computer on October 27, 2011. When he arrived there, the police officers said they were suspecting him of having stolen money from one of his clients' apartment in August 2011.

The victim said the police demanded that he admit his guilt and, after he refused, beat him and subjected him to violence using a pen and a bottle. Krylov was forced to admit his guilt. The criminal case against Krylov was later closed and he was released.

The three police officers were dismissed from the police after the investigation began.
