MOSCOW. May 4 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia and China will continue holding joint naval maneuvers, Russian Armed Forces General Staff Chief Gen. Nikolai Makarov said.
"We will certainly continue these exercises," he said on Thursday, commenting on the results of last week's Russian-Chinese naval maneuvers.
The recent exercises demonstrated "the improved skills of the Chinese Naval Forces and the Russian Navy," Makarov said.
Large-scale Russian-Chinese maneuvers, dubbed Naval Cooperation-2012, were conducted in the Yellow Sea from April 22 to April 27 and involved more than 20 ships and support vessels provided by the Russian Pacific Fleet and the Chinese Naval Forces.
The exercises were intended to bolster Russian-Chinese relations, the two countries' strategic partnership and cooperation between their Armed Forces.
Russia's Pacific Fleet and the Naval Forces of China have regularly held joint exercises. Over 70 surface ships and submarines took part in the two countries' Peace Mission land and sea maneuvers in 2005.
