Cache discovery foils terror plot in Dagestan - NAK

MOSCOW. May 21 (Interfax) - A major terror plot has been foiled in Dagestan after the discovery of a militant cache containing over 100 kilograms of explosives, the National Anti-terrorist Committee said.

"As a result of an operation in a wooded area near the village of Kadyrkent in Dagestan's Sergokali district, a militant cache has today been found containing a large quantity of explosives and weapons," the NAK told Interfax on Sunday.

The inspection of the cache has revealed seven improvised explosive devices weighing 15-17 kilograms each, a large number of components for making explosive mixtures, two RPG "Shmel" grenade launchers, medications and syringes, the statement said.

"According to the NAK headquarters in Dagestan, the militants were planning to use the explosive devices for staging terrorist attacks in the Sergokali and adjacent districts," NAK said.

Security forces managed to receive the information about a possible location of the cache and render it safe at an early stage, the statement said.

"The seizure of a significant explosive arsenal has allowed to prevent a series of terrorist attacks in Dagestan and avoid human casualties," the NAK said.
