Labor Party opposes Georgian accession to NATO

TBILISI. May 21 (Interfax) - The Georgian opposition Labor Party posted a statement on Monday to urge other political organizations to sign a declaration regarding Georgia's non-accession to NATO.

"We ask the participants in the NATO Chicago summit not to shake the hand of dictator Saakashvili who trades his own country. We call on political parties to sign a declaration on Georgia's non-accession to NATO," Labor Party leader Shalva Natelashvili told a Monday press briefing in Tbilisi.

If the Labor Party takes office, it will not allow Georgia's membership in NATO or some other military-political bloc, he said.

"All the Georgian misfortunes of the past decades - the loss of lands, the geopolitical beating by Russia, poverty and dictatorship - result from the unpromising and criminal strategy of integration into NATO," he concluded.
