Space debris may obstruct space projects - Roscosmos

MOSCOW. May 22 (Interfax) - The space agencies of 12 countries will take part in the 30th session of the Inter-Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee in Montreal, Canada, on May 22 to 25.

"By the middle of the 21st century, the huge amount of space garbage flying in near-earth space may seriously obstruct space activities," the federal space agency Roscosmos said on its website on Tuesday. Discussions will be held at the conference on ways to remove space garbage from orbits and to organize a space traffic control service, it said.

Russia will be represented by Roscosmos, by space rocket organizations and by the Russian Academy of Sciences. The delegation will be led by Roscosmos's strategic planning and programs chief, Yury Makarov.

The Inter-Agency Space Debris Committee is comprised of the space agencies of Italy, France, China, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, the United States, Ukraine, Britain and Russia, and the European Space Agency.
