Bodies of SSJ-100 crash victims to be taken to Moscow on May 24

MOSCOW. May 22 (Interfax) - The remains of those killed in the Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ-100) crash in Indonesia will be returned to their relatives on Wednesday, the press service for the Industry and Trade Ministry has reported.

"A farewell ceremony for the SSJ-100 crash victims is now being held in a police hospital in Jakarta. The official ceremony for handing over the coffins to the relatives, Russian embassy officials, and the U.S. will take place at the Halim airport at 10:00 a.m. local time on May 23," a report obtained by Interfax on Tuesday says.

Death certificates issued by the hospital, embalming certificates, and identification protocols have already been handed over to a Russian diplomatic official.

"The Russian embassy will promptly issue death certificates and cargo documentation before Cargo 200 leaves for Moscow. The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry RA-76840 plane carrying the remains of the Russian citizens will leave Jakarta for Ramenskoye at 1:00 a.m. Moscow time on May 24," the report says.

The SSJ-100 crashed during a demo flight on May 9 after hitting a mountain. All 45 people aboard, including eight Russian citizens, were killed.

A flight recorder was found at the crash site after a lengthy search operation. Experts are now working with it. The second flight recorder has not been found yet.
