Russia ready to expand Bushehr NPP in line with intl law - Rosatom

ASTANA. May 29 (Interfax) - Russian nuclear energy corporation Rosatom is prepared to participate in building the next power generating unit at the Bushehr nuclear power plant in Iran, "if this is not prohibited, if this brings benefit and if we get a calculated project," Rosatom's deputy head, Nikolai Spassky, told the press.

"There is nothing new in raising the issue of Russia's possible role in the construction of the next power-generating unit at the Bushehr nuclear power plant," he said.

"The UN Security Council's resolutions carrying sanctions do not ban this. But if this is to be done, consultations must be held and many terms negotiated," he said.

"No feasibility study is available yet and the expediency of building one more power generating unit has not been calculated thus far," Spassky said.
