MOSCOW. June 7 (Interfax) - The Syrian authorities are committed to the peace plan proposed by United Nations - Arab League Special Envoy Kofi Annan, said the Syrian Ambassador to Russia.
The Russian President's Special Envoy for the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, met with Syrian Ambassador Riyad Haddad at the latter's request on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry said.
"Haddad reaffirmed the Syrian authorities' commitments to Annan's plan, swift discontinuation of violence and the launch of an internal Syrian political dialogue in the interests of all Syrians," the ministry said.
The diplomats exchanged their views on the latest events in and around Syria. "Russia made a special emphasis on the task of consolidating international efforts aimed at assisting the implementation of the peace plan proposed by UN-Arab League's Special Envoy Annan," the Foreign Ministry said.
