Anti-Iranian sanctions work - U.S. diplomat

MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax) - The U.S. ambassador to Russia argued on Friday that international sanctions against Iran in a bid to abandon its alleged program of developing nuclear weapons had proved an effective measure.

Current anti-Iranian sanctions will put the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany in a better position in negotiations through which the six-nation group tries to persuade Tehran to drop its nuclear program, Michael McFaul said in a speech to students at the Russian Economic School. The next round of talks will be held in Moscow.

He argued that the six nations-versus-Iran talks format offers a potentially much simpler solution than talks on a one-to-one basis. However, he admitted there are disagreements within the six-country group.
