MOSCOW. June 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Russia will supply more Tor-M2E surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems to Belarus in late 2012, Rosoboronexport's Deputy General Director Igor Sevastyanov said.
"The second battery is due to be supplied [to Belarus] before the end of this year," Sevastyanov said.
"We are working with Belarus very closely in the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) framework, including on the issue of missile defense," the source said.
In late 2011, Belarus received and successfully commissioned four Tor-M2E systems, he recalled. Apart from supplying new systems, Rosoboronexport is constantly providing maintenance and upgrading services for the air defense systems deployed in Belarus, Sevastyanov said.
"Tor-M2E can simultaneously fire four missiles at four targets, i.e. perform the tasks that only Tor-M1 could do before," he said.
The new SAM system is of particular interest to the countries which are already using Tor systems in previous modifications, according to experts.
