MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a telephone conversation on Friday with Kofi Annan, UN and Arab League envoy for Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"The minister focused on the initiative of the Russian Federation to call an international conference on [the Syria] issue soon with the participation of all key external players," the ministry said in a statement.
Lavrov and Annan decided to "continue to maintain permanent contact and do joint work in that direction to ensure political solutions to problems in Syria via an extensive national dialogue with international support," the statement said.
They called for combined international efforts to settle the Syrian conflict.
