Russian, German foreign ministers discuss Syria

MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle discussed a number of international problems, including the situation in Syria, by telephone on Friday, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

"Particular focus was on the developments in Syria with an emphasis on the political and diplomatic settlement as the sole way of resolving the crisis and the need to consolidate international efforts in support of Kofi Annan's plan," the statement said.

The ministers agreed to continue bilateral contacts in the very near future.

The telephone conversation took place at the request of Germany
