MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - Moscow is convinced that a resolution on Chapter 7 of the United Nations Charter, if passed by the UN Security Council, will only worsen the already critical situation in Syria.
"Our logic is that all countries which have influence both on the government and opposition should join their efforts to bring the process of political settlement in Syria in line with Annan's plan," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov told Interfax.
"Obviously, imposing restrictive or forcible measures will not help it and will only worsen the already complex situation in this country," Gatilov said.
"Our logic is that right now there is no need to exert additional pressure, impose sanctions or threaten the use of force," he said.
