More than five tonnes of drugs seized in CSTO operation - Federal Drug Control Service

MOSCOW. June 9 (Interfax) - More than five tonnes of drugs were seized in Operation Canal Vostok supervised by the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Collective Security Council.

"More than five tonnes of drugs, including over 194 kilograms of synthetic drugs, 241 kilograms of opium, almost four tonnes of marijuana, about 600 kilograms of hashish, more than 550 kilograms of heroin and over 14,000 tonnes of precursors, were confiscated," the Federal Drug Control Service told Interfax on Saturday.

The operation, which ended on June 8, involved more than 44,000 law enforcers of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Officers of Afghanistan, China and Mongolia were observers.

"More than 800 drug-related crimes were exposed and more than 4,000 criminal cases were opened. Drug trafficking charges were brought against over 500 people," the service said. In addition, the police seized 250 firearms and more than 700 pieces of ammunition.
