ASTANA. June 13 (Interfax) - Police have seized more than a tonne of marijuana in the South Kazakhstan Region, Kazakh Interior Ministry spokesman Nurdilda Oraz has announced.
"A 55-year-old resident of the South Kazakhstan Region was detained in the Poppy-2012 and Canal-East search operations last week and 690 kilograms of marijuana were seized from him," he said at a press briefing in Astana on Wednesday.
Four hundred and ten kilograms of marijuana were seized from a resident of Taraz, 54, on railway tracks several kilometers away.
Probes have been started into the incidents, he said.
