MOSCOW. June 15 (Interfax) - A recent fire and ensuing detonation of munitions at a military depot in the Orenburg region was caused by gross violation of the rules for disposing of munitions, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office said.
"Supervisory procedures have shown that the command, on the pretext of accelerating the transportation of munitions to the places of their disposal, organized the work of the loading crew on a weekend in violation of the law and directives by the Central Military District's commander," the Prosecutor General's Office said in a statement posted on its website.
"Examination at the military unit's checkpoint was carried out inappropriately, which resulted in servicemen's freely bringing banned ignition devices to the depot's territory and smoking in the near vicinity of munitions and gunpowder," it said.
