MOSCOW. June 18 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin has submitted to the State Duma for ratification a protocol on the deployment of military sites on the territories of Collective Security Treaty (CSTO) member countries.
The document signed in Moscow on December 20, 2011, consolidates the organization and builds up its efficiency.
"Actually, our countries undertake not to deploy military contingents from third countries on their territories without the CSTO approval," First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs and Relations with Compatriots Dmitry Sablin told reporters.
The pledge fully complies with the interests of collective security and Russia, he said.
"We do not want new foreign military bases to open near our borders," Sablin said.
