Defense lawyers asks U.S. govt to pardon Bout

MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - The defense lawyers for Russian businessman Viktor Bout, who was sentenced in the United States to 25 years on counts of arms trafficking, have urged the American administration to pardon Bout.

"We have found it possible to request a pardon from the American administration, based on the reciprocity principle," defense lawyer Viktor Burobin said at a news conference in Moscow on Friday.

The defense referred to the pardon in Russia of U.S. citizen Edmund Pope, he said.
