Gazprom increases gas supply to Turkey by 16 mcm a day because of terrorist attack - Miller

MOSCOW. June 29 (Interfax) - Russian gas giant Gazprom (RTS: GAZP) has increased daily supply of gas to Turkey by 16 million cubic meters because of a terrorist attack, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said at a press conference on Friday.

In annual terms, this is 6 billion cubic meters of gas a year.

"You know that there has been a terrorist attack on the trunk gas pipeline from Iran to Turkey. The Turkish official authorities announced this. It is presumably a terrorist attack. Turkey has asked us to increase supplies of Russian gas and we began that yesterday," he said.

"Supplies of Russian gas go Turkey have been increased by 16 million cubic meters per day. If we take the annual volume that is 6 billion cubic meters. That is a significant amount," he said.

Gazprom regularly provides additional volumes of gas to the Turkish market, he said. "There are different reasons for this: it is not just gas pipeline explosions, but also unusually cold winters in Turkey," he said.

Azerbaijan and Turkey have signed an intergovernmental agreement on construction of a gas pipeline through Turkey to the border with the EU. "If a situation comes up, if there is a break up in gas supplies from Iran to Turkey or if there is a very cold winter in Turkey then Azerbaijan can use its privilege and supply additional gas to the Turkish market after this project," Miller said.
