Some Berkut police leave square in front of Ukrainian House, opposition rally begins

KYIV. July 4 (Interfax) - Several hundreds of Berkut special task police officers left the territory around the Ukrainian House in Kyiv's European Square after it was announced that the press conference by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was postponed.

Some Berkut police officers remain at the Ukrainian House, an Interfax correspondent has reported.

The protesters occupied the territory vacated by the Berkut police and began a rally at the entrance to the Ukrainian House.

Inside the building, some 30 policemen have lined up at the central entrance, in particular, the place where glass has been broken.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was expected to give a press conference in the Ukrainian House at 11:30 a.m. The press conference was rescheduled due to statements made by Ukrainian Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn and his deputy Mykola Tomenko on their resignation.
