MOSCOW. July 5 (Interfax-AVN) - The Aerospace Defense Forces' arsenal in the Tambov region accepted more than 7,000 wagon-loads of special armaments and space means for their storing, maintenance, repair and disposal each year, Aerospace Defense Forces spokesman Col. Alexei Zolotukhin told Interfax-AVN on Thursday.
"Among the main aspects of its work is the disassembling of rejected equipment in order to obtain precious metal scrap and to destroy weapons and military hardware. About 900 kilograms of precious metal scrap, including 50 kilograms of gold, over 800 kilograms of silver and about three kilograms of platinum have been obtained this way over the past 10 years," Zolotukhin said.
About 100 facilities, buildings, storages and open-storage sites are at the Aerospace Forces' disposal. They are large enough to accommodate more than 7,000 wagon-loads of weapons. The arsenals' annual cargo turnover is over 10,000 tonnes.
