MOSCOW. July 13 (Interfax) - Russian Presidential Representative for the Middle East, Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov received Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad in Moscow on Thursday.
The meeting took place at the Syrian diplomat's request.
"The sides exchanged opinions about the situation in Syria and around it. Bodanov informed his guest about work with opposition representatives in Syria with emphasis on readiness to pursue intensive contacts with the Syrian opposition for the sake of consolidating its approaches in line with the task of implementing the Kofi Annan peace plan and the final communique of the Geneva ministerial meeting of the Action Group on Syria," the Russian Foreign Ministry says on its website.
The sides underscored the need for the UN monitoring mission in Syria to resume its work, while the UN Security Council continues debates on the issue.
"Haddad confirmed the Syrian government's commitment to the Annan plan and readiness for an inclusive dialogue in the interests of all Syrians," the statement says.
