MOSCOW. July 13 (Interfax) - Every fourth Russian (25%) supports the government's position on the conflict in Syria, according to an opinion poll held by the Public Opinion Foundation in July.
Just 4% of those polled slammed that position as wrong. The majority of respondents (68%) are well-informed about the conflict, but many people (28%) know virtually nothing about it.
One-third of those polled (32%) believe that the international community should not interfere in Syria's affairs, 21%, or every fifth, disagree, and 16% are uncertain.
Most Russians do not sympathize with either of the conflicting parties (36%), a mere $4% feel sympathy towards the rebels and 16% are inclined to support the Syrian government.
More than a half of the respondents (56%) couldn't say whether Syria was a friendly country, 32% think that it is, while 15% believe that it is not.
The crisis in Syria erupted more than a year ago and has claimed over 10,000 lives, according to UN estimates. Peaceful protests have mutated into full-scale armed resistance.
