STAVROPOL. July 13 (Interfax) - The situation in southern Russia, including in border areas of the Caucasus republics, has recently stabilized, according to local border officials.
"The situation is stabilizing, including in Chechnya and Ingushetia. And that is very satisfying," head of the Southern Regional Border Directorate of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) Nikolai Lisinsky told a press conference on Thursday
When asked who is the biggest violator of the border regime he said that "everything depends on a section of the border."
"Each section behaves differently. The Rostov region is smuggling and drug trafficking; the Krasnodar section is more drug trafficking. The sea waters - a bigger part, of course - are violators of the water environment. There are spies, there are insurgents, there are terrorists. And that is the reason for holding special operations to apprehend them. There is plenty of information," Lisinsky said.
