STAVROPOL. July 13 (Interfax) - The Southern Regional Border Directorate of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) is working to increase security on the national border to ensure safety during the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Directorate chief Nikolai Lisinsky said.
"Border guards are the first ones to meet people who come from abroad, and the last one to see them leaving the country, so there is a set of tasks we are fulfilling. An enormous work is being carried out to prepare for the Winter Olympic Games, aimed at tightening security on the national border," Lisinsky told a press conference on Thursday.
Also, training is provided for the border staff.
"The task we are facing today is: our border must be open and transparent for our friends and closed for our enemies," Lisinsky said.
There are 74 checkpoints in southern Russia, which currently operate under the "one approach - one window" principle, he said.
