Russia will help Tajikistan dispose of rocket fuel waste with beryllium - law

MOSCOW. July 13 (Interfax-AVN) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed into law a bill ratifying a Russian-Tajik governmental agreement on cooperation in the safe disposal of products and solid rocket fuel waste containing beryllium.

The document was posted on the Kremlin's website.

Tajikistan finalized all of the internal procedures needed to enact the agreement, which was signed on June 28, 2005, in January 2006.

The document allows the two countries to cooperate in disposing of products and solid rocket fuel waste containing beryllium accumulated at storage sites of the Zarya Vostoka plant in Tajikistan.

All disposal operations will be conducted in two stages. The first stage will include the formulation of technical suggestions for the disposal of products and fuel waste, and the second phase will see the disposal of items and fuel waste and the destruction of technical documents related to their production.

Russia and Tajikistan will have to appoint their agencies to oversee these disposal efforts.

Disposal methods developed during the operations could be used on Russian territory.
