Putin arrives in Krymsk

KRYMSK. July 16 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in the flood-hit town of Krymsk on Sunday evening.

The president arrived on a helicopter.

The president is expected to inspect the affected areas and hold a meeting.

This is the second trip by the president to the flooded town in the last few days. On July 7 Putin inspected from a helicopter the affected areas in the Krasnodar Territory. Then he held an emergency meeting in Krymsk.

Heavy rains in the towns of Gelendzhik and Novorossiisk and in the Krymsk district caused a flooding on July 6-7. About 9,000 properties and apartment blocks and seven socially significant facilities were flooded.

Emergency Situations Minister Vladimir Puchkov told reporters on Sunday that 171 people were killed by floods in the Kuban region. "Our data is that the flooding killed 171 people, but there are some who have yet to be identified," the minister said.

"All this talk about a higher death toll makes no sense," he said.
