Abkhaz prosecutors investigating attack on military commandant's aide

SUKHUMI. July 16 (Interfax) - The Abkhaz military prosecutor's office is investigating an attack on an official from the Gali district military commandant's office, the Abkhaz Defense Ministry told journalists.

"Beslan Kirtadze, an aide to the Gali district military commandant for registration of draftees, was attacked while he was on duty on July 11. The official was returning to Gali after presenting draft notices to draftees. When his automobile was going across a bridge, fire was opened from a skirmish," it said.

The attackers fired a VOG-17 under-barrel grenade launcher and three 7.62-milimiter assault rifles. Kirtadze suffered fragmentation wounds and was taken to the hospital, the ministry said.
