High-ranking official's car attacked in Kabardino-Balkaria

MOSCOW. July 16 (Interfax) - A car of Kabardino-Balkaria's deputy chief investigator came under a fire attack on Sunday evening.

"At around 6:05 p.m. on July 15, 2012, deputy head of the Russian Investigative Committee investigative directorate for the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria Justice Colonel Alim Babayev, who was driving his personal vehicle, which also carried his young child, drove into the courtyard of an apartment block in the city of Nalchik where he lives. At that moment an unidentified person fired a shot from a firearm, hitting the car roof," the Investigative Committee said on its website.

"No one was hurt as a result of the shot," the Committee said.

"The Russian Investigative Committee's investigative authorities for the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria have launched a preliminary inquiry into the incident. A team of investigators is working at the scene, trying to ascertain all circumstances of the incident. A procedural decision will be made based on the results of the inquiry," the statement said.
