MAKHACHKALA. July 16 (Interfax) - Two officers of OMON riot police were killed in an attack in a suburb of Makhachkala Saturday evening, Interfax was told at the Dagestani Interior Ministry press service.
A press officer said that the policemen were attacked at about 11:10 p.m. in Novy Khushet, south of Makhachkala.
"Unidentified attackers driving a jeep opened automatic fire at a Lada Priora and a Lada parked next to each other. There was an OMON officer in each of the cars. Both of them died. A search for the attackers is under way," the press officer said.
The Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for Dagestan confirmed the report of an attack. "A team of investigators is working at the scene taking all due investigative measures," an official spokesman for the department said.
