Airborne Troops make weighty contribution to Russian security - Putin

MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a congratulatory message to the Airborne Troops personnel and veterans, the Kremlin said on Thursday.

"The Russian Airborne Troops have a rich history and glorious traditions, and the service in the 'winged infantry' has always been considered highly responsible and honorable. The combatants of its forces, your strength is your unbending will, camaraderie and mutual help. Paratroopers always honorably attain their goals, demonstrate loyalty to the Fatherland and duty, and prove in deed the fairness of the legendary, time-tested motto, 'No one but us'," the letter said, in particular.

"Today the Airborne Troops are facing serious, large-scale tasks of technical re-equipment and arms modernization, optimizing the staff structure and troops numbers. Particular attention must be paid to the worthy material support and the physical, psychological and military training of servicemen, in accordance with the most modern requirements," Putin said.

"I am certain that you will continue to guard Russia's interests, make a weighty contribution to the strengthening of our country's defense capabilities and national security," the president said.
