Ingush leader not ruling out Umarov's occasional visit to republic

MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - Terrorist Doku Umarov might be staying in Ingushetia occasionally, said Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, leader of the republic of Ingushetia.

"They have chosen the optimal option for themselves. There is no Ingushetia or Chechnya for them. They outlined the so-called Imarat Caucasus and move around it. And of course, they visit here occasionally, and have been caught in Chechnya yet. We do not rule out that Umarov could sometimes be in Ingushetia too," Yevkurov said at a briefing on Thursday, responding to a question posed by Interfax.

Recently, security forces detected a gang in Ingushetia, he said. "For example, the Gudermess gang found temporary refuge in one of villages on the border with Chechnya. There is a forest there, it was convenient for them to hide. But we are working, and they got caught in our trap," Yevkurov said.

There is no Wahhabism in Ingushetia, he said. "I am not worried by the Wahhabism problem. Our aim is this: everything must be non-radical. Radicals are godless, not religious people," the Ingush leader said.
