Launch of Resurs-P earth-probing satellite put off (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Aug 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The launch of the Russia's Resurs-P new-generation earth-probing satellite has been put off by four weeks, a source in the space rocket industry told Interfax-AVN.

"Experts said the satellite is not well prepared for the launch. Therefore, the launch has been put off until October 25," ha said.

The launch of a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with the Resurs-P satellite was initially set for late September.

In 2007 the TsSKB-Progress design bureau won a tender for building the Resurs-P set of two satellites. The first satellite is to be launched in 2012 and the second in 2013.

In May 2012, TsSKB-Progress won a tender to make a third satellite.

The Resurs-P earth-probing satellite is based on the Resurs-DK satellite, but has seven narrow spectral ranges compared to the basic three, hyper-spectral and stereo filming capabilities, and a definition of 10 to 15 meters. Its service life is five years, compared to the basic three.
