Kyrgyz, Tajik troops airlifted to Chelyabinsk region for joint drill

MOSCOW. Aug 3 (Interfax-AVN) - The Rubezh-2012 (Frontier-2012) exercise of the Collective Rapid Deployment Force of the Central Asian Region will be held at the Chebarkul training ground in the Chelyabinsk region from August 6 to 10.

"Russian military transport aircraft on Friday airlifted Kyrgyz and Tajik contingents to the Shagol air field in Chelyabinsk," spokesman for Russia's Central Military District Lt. Col. Yevgeny Meshkov told Interfax-AVN.

"The troops will test uniform methods for resolving crisis in operations to maintain security in Central Asia," Meshkov said.

"The drill will involve more than 1,000 servicemen from motorized infantry, mountain airborne-attack and other units, plus about 100 pieces of military hardware, and an air task force, including combat helicopters and tactical bombers," he said.

"Foreign servicemen will take field exams for the first time to be cleared to participate in the joint maneuvers of the Collective Rapid Deployment Force, and then they will be provided with military hardware, weapons and other equipment," Meshkov said.
