MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax-AVN) - The air base in Kant is operating in Russia's and Kyrgyzstan's interests and its role will be increasing, Russian Air Force Commander Viktor Bondarev told Interfax-AVN.
"No questions arise about Kant. Kyrgyzstan wants the Russian air base to continue working, especially in view of the United States' plans to withdraw from Afghanistan in 12014," he said.
"In these conditions, the role of the Kant air base will be increasing in the system for maintaining regional security," he said.
"The idea of removing the air base from Kant has never even occurred to anyone. The base is there and it will remain there," the general said.
